Ok I’ve been lax. The holidays got in the way and then I got lazy about posting. The unclaimed property claim hasn’t come through yet. I emailed the State about it Thursday, Friday they email back to tell me they’re only on claims dating from November 9th! I filed my claim November 21st and they said it will be a couple of weeks until they get to that date. Then of course they’ll want a ton more info from me…

It is no secret that The Secret is, at least partly, about Charles F. Haanel’s The Master Key System. Yes… that is my page at Seth Godin’s new Squidoo site. What is Squidoo? Kind of like the old Mining Company before it became About.com. You author a page about a subject near and dear, include links, and once the site is out of beta you will hopefully share in the profits from Google AdSense and affiliate sales such as Amazon. Well why not just do this on your own website or blog? Do that too. Squidoo pages are first meant to be in addition to your own site then stand on their own.

Then find a to-do system that works for you. Next, figure out what your resolutions will be and research them. That way your New Year’s resolutions can be much grander and more focused than “getting organized” and “loosing weight”. Good blogs to start with: lifehack.org, 43 Folders and D*I*Y Planner.

While in the “library” I was glancing through the lastest real paper issue of InfoWorld and a brief blurb about Amazon Mechanical Turk caught my eye. The most basic explanation is that Amazon will pay you to do simple tasks better suited to humans rather than machines. Right now that seems limited to choosing the best pictures for their A9 Yellow Pages. The no brainer is that human eyes can see the actual street address or storefront name better than a computer can… for the time being. Each HIT (Human Intelligence Task), in this case picking the best picture out of a group, pays 3 cents and is subject to approval or rejection by the business listing the task. Once businesses outside of A9 were involved I would assume that the rate of pay per HIT would go up (or down) based on the difficulty and time it would take to complete it. I did 36 HITs and will go back tomorrow to see if they were approved. Unfortunately I did not time the set of tasks but I don’t think I’ll quit the day job just yet. Something to add the Million Dollar Experiment.

I took the Goalaholic Quiz at Goal-Free Living.

Your goalaholic score was 57 out of 90 (ideal range is between 15 and 29)

GOALAHOLIC: Perhaps it is time to check yourself into rehab! Goals have a stranglehold on your life. You have elected to put your happiness on hold for the promise of a better tomorrow, but often find that tomorrow never comes. Or, if it does, you are left with the empty realization that “this is not IT”. While your focus and determination may have made you successful, it is also the very thing that has kept you from truly leading a passion-filled and miraculous life. Wondrous opportunities may have surfaced, but your determination to see your goals through to fruition made you blind to them… or worse, had you consciously bypass them. And how many of these goals were important to you at one time, and although your interests have changed, your goals did not? More than likely, you have succumbed to traditional measures of success thrust upon you by family, friends, the media, the “Joneses”. You have stopped thinking and living your own life and have allowed others to dictate it for you. You have chosen success over happiness, tomorrow over today, mediocrity over miraculous.

I do not have “focus and determination” nor am I “successful” but I have a tendency to make goals and break them, make new goals and break them too. It’s an endless cycle. I want to live a simple and creative life but my energy is sapped by a rather physical job at a supermarket. Living off my creativity does require some goals to get there, and maintaining a regular job for now, yet I want to live a goal-free life… *sigh*

The million Dollar Experiment is based on the Intention-Manifestation model. Simply put your goal out there everyday for the universe to hear. That’s everyday. Remain aware that it’s out there. A candle burning brightly in cold, dark space. Watch for falling stars. You could get your wish!
